Blue Jeans... How complicated can it get?

This post is different from what I "typically" write about, but some of my posts are random and this is one of them.

Like many people, wear jeans a lot.  I have two pairs that are either in my hamper or in the washing machine because I wear them everyday  A few days ago, I pulled open my bottom drawer to see the other "don't fit" pairs.  These are jeans that fit when I bought them, but for whatever reason no longer fit.

I'm a Levi's size X Medium.  So when I ordered a pair that was the same size and length of my current "fit like a glove, but can still bend" jeans, they were too big.  I don't mean a little big, I mean even if I used a belt, they still wouldn't be close.  This was made even more difficult by the fact that all my jeans have lycra or some stretchy stuff in them.  While they fit ok when I first put them on, I was swimming in them after moving around as I would in a normal day.

To further complicate the issue, I fit into junior's, not women's.  If you walk into Kohl's or another store where they sell Levi's you will notice something, most if not all of their jeans sold in retail have hearts or stars on them.  This would be fine if I was 13, but not so much when you are 25.

I have noticed the same pattern with pajama pants.  I prefer the drawstring baggy style of PJ pants.  However, if they are too big, they are in danger of falling down or being so long that they come to the middle of my foot and become slippery when I walk around in bare feet.

I am currently size X in PJ bottoms, one size smaller than I was last time I ordered.  I did not change, the maker of the pants did.  If you measure the pants from 6 months ago with the ones I bought last month, you will find that the proportions are the same, but one is a totally different size.

Also, when trying on jeans there is a moment where you think your search could be over until fastening the button and looking at the side view.  What's with the gap in the back?!  How can the waistband be snug, yet loose in the back thereby forcing the wearer to use a belt?  I don't just mean a bit loose, there's about an inch or two of excess fabric so if I sat down without a belt, I'd be showing the world my lower back.

I just don't get it.  Currently, I have five pairs of jeans.  Two are too big, two are perfect, and one is too small.  Why do companies re-size their clothes every six months when they were fine in the first place?  Now I must consider just how much I really need third and fourth pairs of jeans and if its really worth it to try on about 50 pairs before I find the one.

I'm talking about blue jeans for Pete's sake, not dating!

    1. Thanks! I don't usually write random posts about clothes, but felt my blog would be a good outlet to express my frustrations around jeans. I never did venture into a clothing store to find the perfect pair, but when and if I do I'm considering sharing that experience here.

  2. You are right - I think they like playing tricks if it means having us come back for more jeans. My mom gave me the advice to buy up a pair of jeans when you find one you like.

    1. I think I would be more apt to buy more pairs if they didn't change the everything. We are more willing to do things when they are easy, less so when the task feels daunting. Thanks for commenting!

  3. I know what you mean! I HATE shopping for jeans! I could try one the same pair, same style and size, and each pair will fit differently. Also, I have a few pairs that are different brands and one fits perfectly and the other way too small. It's ridiculous. I wear a lot of yoga pants because of this. I also have a few pairs of elastic waist band pants that I wear a lot. I love them! The way my body shape is, I don't seem to fit into any of the style of jeans that are out there, it's so frustrating!

  4. LoL I HATE PANT SHOPPING !!!! My husband hates going shopping with me cause he knows we will be in there for hours and it's not because I like to shop. It's because I am stuck in the dang pant dept. Shirts and accessories were done hours ago! I see what you mean in the junior dept but I am on the bigger side I am a 16 just out side of the women's and into the plus. All those pants are either faded frilly or sweat pants! No just plain jeans!!! LOL your not alone girl. :)

    1. Hi Katie!! How did you find me? I just found you blog and it looks like we have something in common.

I find it easier to shop for dress pants because they only need to fit in the waist and length. Jeans are harder and take all day because they need to fit well all around. Shirts can be tricky too since what might be the right length when worn with dress pants might be too short when worn with jeans. And we ladies have a unique issue when it comes to button up shirts.

    1. I've noticed I'm less likely to get completely frustrated if I just go shopping and randomly find a pair of jeans. That way it's more coincidental and less "on a mission" mentality".
